First built in 1974, Shinjuku Sumitomo Building was renovated after over 20 years of planning. A large glass roof was constructed over its "SANKAKU HIROBA" public plaza, creating an all-weather communal area. INAX Terracotta bricks were installed in this naturally illuminated space as metaphor of the Karami Bricks produced as a by-product of the smelting process conducted at the Besshi Copper Mines in western Japan, where The Sumitomo Group was founded.
